Between outdated CPUs & >CodeWarrior lag, Motorola has probably done more to harm Apple than >Microsoft by now. We are at a point where speed is all relative. With the latest OSX, right now I Have 13 apps running and a half dozen OS "extensions" on my 3 year old TiPB whose transition between is nearly instantaneous. (Even Eudora with almost 50 windows open! In fact, I did not even realize I had so many apps open until I counted the little triangles!) For every one of the apps , except the real hungry java ones (JBUilder on jre1.3.1), performance is excellent for what I do. And the JBUilder thing is also relative since most of my time is not spent compiling... I have two Java apps running. All my apps are available within .5 seconds of wake-up. I have not rebooted my PB since I installed the last OS Update. The update was one click away, as many things are. And my IM does not have ads!;o) I run Terminal all the time for my power needs... I prefer wide windows to long skinny ones. Unix is a great thing. The UI is a work of art (mosty and haxies can turn things off if I need to)! Most apps do, and always have looked the same. I have had multiple monitors since 1987 or so. I really like like Using it and I have never had to rely on speed to justify my choice. I do thend to vote for the underdog, so I admit I am biased. My mother only called a few times in the first week, and 2 times since getting her iMac. I spend almost no time on supporting 8 macs that I, my wife and kids own. (I am not saying they are perfect as we both remember the dud of a dual I initially received and once in a while I get spinning beachballs for a few seconds. But I did drop my TiPB 3 feet on its corner and lost no data and could use the machine until their technician sent it back with problems...) Viral issues are minimal as well. In fact, my email is not an entry point for a viral attack. Did I mention Unix? How about running many posix based XWindows apps after a remake? I have transparently plugged into client networks of Windows, Unix and mixed nature within minutes of having the required info. (Even under OS9 with the right extensions!) And an admin has said more than once, "How did you do that so quickly". Need I go on? So, I concede that you are 100% correct on the facts. And I certainly agree to the Motorola point! However, it is sometimes hard to judge a product, as complex as PCs are today, only on physical facts. It is the whole experience that counts. Many of the features windows users claim are because of Apple and Xerox... True, I am biased; I say "TomAto" and you say "Tomaaato"... I agree, yours is faster and apparently bigger!;o)... But it is how you use it, that counts!8O) One last thing, try doing this in the background on your machine in a transparent dos window with no "apparent" effect on the other apps you use: grep "Something" `find / -newer ~/a.java -user rickb -print` | wc -l & It is done across the whole mounted filesystem and I did not have to type ":" based drive designators anywhere! And that is something that took me 20 seconds to do without a need to look anything up... (I actually did not try it but it is very close!;o) And apparently, I get more comments about it in public! It is a huge chick magnet!8*) All this from something that is way older, smaller and slower than yours... Hmmm... You can keep your Bill Gates tainted and infested machine, I'll keep my OSX enabled experience!;o) > >Glad to see you've overcome Apple's insulting marketing with objectivity! >o_O > >~Don -Rick BTW, other than JBanner/IM based product experiences, what else would I have to argue with you about!;o)
